MY ROLE
Founder & Systems Engineer — requirements, data architecture, full-stack build, production operations
STACK
TIMELINE & STATUS
2025 – present, in daily production
OVERVIEW
SiteCaptain (the Vertex Site Manager System) is a centralised logistics and inventory platform I built for Vertex — one of Kenya's busiest contractors, with a portfolio spanning high-rise apartments, affordable housing, shopping malls, and airport infrastructure. It's in daily production use, replacing the spreadsheets and message threads that used to run the operation: 44 active sites now report into a single platform.
Work orders, procurement, inventory, crews, and progress reporting live in one system — site teams see their sites, leadership sees the whole portfolio in real time, and a delta-reconciliation pattern keeps stock records accurate across sites, reducing supply-chain leakage.
HIGHLIGHTS AT A GLANCE
Digitising how 44 simultaneous construction sites actually run — work orders, procurement, and inventory that stay precise under concurrent change.
THE CHALLENGE
Construction at this scale generates relentless operational data: work orders, site inventories, crew assignments, procurement requests, approvals, progress logs. Spread across 44 simultaneous sites, that data lived in disconnected spreadsheets, WhatsApp threads, and paper — slow to compile, easy to lose, impossible to see in one place.
Leadership had no real-time view of the portfolio. Site teams duplicated effort daily. And because heavy industrial operations generate rapid, concurrent changes, any system that couldn't keep inventory precisely in sync would simply reproduce the chaos digitally.
MY APPROACH
I embedded with the operational reality first — how site managers actually record work, how head office actually consumes reports — and designed the platform around those workflows rather than forcing new ones.
I shipped the core early and refined it against live use on real sites, so the product was shaped by months of daily feedback from the people actually running the projects.
WHAT I BUILT
0.1
Centralised site & project management
Every active site, its status, teams, and timelines in one dashboard — site teams see their sites, leadership sees the whole portfolio.
0.2
Work orders & task tracking
Create, assign, and track work across crews with live, multi-user status updates — changes made on site reflect at head office instantly.
0.3
Procurement & inventory with delta reconciliation
The procurement lifecycle digitised end-to-end, with a custom delta-reconciliation pattern keeping inventory precise under rapid concurrent changes instead of drifting out of sync.
0.4
High-performance data workflows
Optimised for the heavy, table-driven daily use construction demands — server rendering, pagination, and database-level indexing keep screens fast as records grow into the thousands.
OUTCOMES
44 active construction sites reporting into a single platform, in continuous daily production use.
Delta reconciliation keeps stock records accurate in real time across sites, reducing supply-chain leakage.
Replaced fragmented spreadsheet-and-message workflows with a single source of truth — from residential towers to airport infrastructure.
